Treatment lines of childhood chronic ITP: A Retrospective single centered- analysis
Аннотация
Summary:
About 25% of ITP children develop chronicity. Second line treatment options are available, albeit none of them is proved to be the best. We reviewed the course, response to different treatment lines and outcome of chronic ITP children to compare between efficacies of treatment options. Data of 74 chronic ITP children retrieved over 10 years retrospectively including: age sex, diagnosis date, duration of chronicity, treatment given and response. 33.8%of patients were managed conservatively, 62% received immunomodulators and 37.8% received thrombopoietin receptor agonists. No differences in patients’ response between immunemodulators (P value 0.3) or forms of thrombopoietin receptor agonists (P value 0.6). Males with a sustained response to immunemodulators were more than females (P value 0.01). Sustained response was higher among TPO-RAs than those on immunomodulators (P value 0.01). No differences between immunomodulators. TPO-RAs had similar efficacy in chronic ITP with more sustainability than immunomodulators. Although many treatment options exsit, till the moment no single therapy that can suit all chronic ITP patients.
Keywords: immune thrombocytopenia, immunemodulators, thrombopoietin receptor agonists, sustained response, complete response, partial response.
